book #1 is beautifully written (do not spoil it by finding out TOO much before hand what its about, just savor each page). This is the read-in-a-day book.
book #2 is about Newfoundland and it's WAY more authentic than the better know "Shipping News" Plus it was made into a TV series and I have that if you like it and want to watch after :)
